Application

Degree Programs:

Master of Science and Ph.D. degree programs are offered and applications for either of these utilize the same application forms. M.S. degree programs are available to U.S. citizens but our primary emphasis is educating U.S. and non-U.S. Ph.D. students.

How to Apply

You can apply to the University of Missouri Graduate School http://gradschool.missouri.edu or directly to the Department (Departmental Application)

Completed applications to the Graduate School are forwarded to the Department.

Application to the Department:

Your application will not to be reviewed until the following are received:

1. A completed Department Application form

2. Copies or official copies of transcripts from all Colleges and Universities attended

3. Copies or official copies of Graduate Record Exam Scores (GRE) (Institution Code 6875, Department Code 0216 )

4. Three (3) letters of recommendation that address the applicant’s ability for advanced study, research experience/skills, rank among students at a comparable stage in career, written and oral communication skills and personal attributes including integrity, ability to work with others and teaching skills.

5. Evidence of research experience should be provided

6. International students; Copies or official copies of Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL), or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Scores. Standards and Special Requirements

All applicants are expected to have excellent grade point averages and GRE scores and an undergraduate degree with a strong background in life sciences and related areas. There is not a minimum GRE score but most applicants have scores above the 75th percentile. Considerations however are given for other outstanding attributes such as research achievements and experiences.

International applicants must submit scores for “Test of English as a Foreign Language” (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The University minimum test scores are: TOEFL 500 (written), 173 (computer-based), 61 (internet-based) and IELTS 5.5. The Office of International Admissions should be consulted for any special requirements for application and admission.

Financial Assistance

Financial Support is available for all highly qualified students. These awards provide stipends, tuition waivers and health insurance. No separate applications for these awards are necessary.

Deadlines for applying

Applications to the Department must be received by January 15 for greatest probability of receiving full financial support. You should apply 1-2 weeks earlier if you apply via the Graduate School in case additional documents are required. Although applications will be accepted until April 15 the entering class is filled before then.

Acceptance into the Program:

If you receive a letter of acceptance from the Department you will need to complete the following for the offer to become official:

1. Send a letter of acceptance to the Department Director of Graduate Studies

If you did not submit the following documents at the time of applying, you need to submit;

2. Official copies of transcripts from all colleges and Universities attended

3. Official copies of Graduate Record Exam Scores

4. Official copies of TOEFL or IELTS Exam Scores

5. Application to the University and Graduate School

Official acceptance will be communicated by the University of Missouri Graduate School.
